Dumpster sizes
What size dumpster do I need?
Most home projects fit a 10- to 20-yard dumpster. Larger renovations and construction typically need 30 or 40 yards. Heavy debris like concrete or shingles calls for a smaller container because of weight limits.

10-yard dumpster
- Typical dimensions
- ~12 ft L × 8 ft W × 3.5 ft H
- Holds about
- 3–4 pickup-truck loads
- Good for
- Bathroom remodel, garage or small cleanout, heavy debris such as dirt or concrete

15-yard dumpster
- Typical dimensions
- ~16 ft L × 8 ft W × 4 ft H
- Holds about
- 4–6 pickup-truck loads
- Good for
- Small kitchen remodel, deck removal, single-room flooring

20-yard dumpster
- Typical dimensions
- ~22 ft L × 8 ft W × 4.5 ft H
- Holds about
- 6–8 pickup-truck loads
- Good for
- Most roof tear-offs, whole-room renovations, mid-size home cleanouts

30-yard dumpster
- Typical dimensions
- ~22 ft L × 8 ft W × 6 ft H
- Holds about
- 9–12 pickup-truck loads
- Good for
- Additions, whole-home cleanouts, new construction framing waste

40-yard dumpster
- Typical dimensions
- ~22 ft L × 8 ft W × 8 ft H
- Holds about
- 12–16 pickup-truck loads
- Good for
- Commercial projects, demolition of large structures, bulky light debris
Typical figures only. Dimensions and weight allowances vary by provider. Read the full size guide.

FAQ
Common questions
How much does a dumpster rental cost?
It depends on the container size, rental length, included weight, debris type and local disposal fees, so prices vary noticeably from one metro to another. Request a quote with your ZIP code for an exact number, or read the dumpster pricing guide.
How many porta potties do I need?
For job sites, OSHA (29 CFR 1926.51) requires at least one toilet for 20 or fewer workers. For events, the count depends on guests, hours, and whether food and alcohol are served. Our quantity guide walks through the math.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster?
Usually not when the dumpster sits on your private driveway. Placement on a public street or sidewalk often needs a city right-of-way permit. HOAs may have their own rules. See dumpster permits.
Can I get same-day delivery?
Sometimes. Same-day and next-day delivery depend on provider inventory and routes in your area. Requests submitted early in the day have the best chance. See same-day dumpster rental.
Do you have local offices?
Haul & Hygiene is a nationwide coordination network. Delivery and service are performed by independent local providers, and we do not claim offices in the cities listed on this site.
